The Village Chronicles is pleased to introduce its readers to its new column, The Encourager, written by Deni Weigel Eads.
Married for over 32 years and the mother of three sons, Deni is a longtime Warrenville resident and a retired alderman.
Asked about the name of her column, she responded, “Encourage means ‘to inspire with courage, faith, and hope’. How many times have you turned to your family or friends to be encouraged with some sort of endeavor you are inspiring to accomplish? This [column] is my way to give back to this awesome community that we love. Please share with me [any] obstacles that you are facing.”

To the Encourager
Yikes! I am having a family gathering in a few weeks and forgot to invite my Aunt Sadie. This is strictly by accident. Now my entire family is so mad at me and wondering how in the world could that happen? I have called my aunt several times to apologize and to invite her, but she has the entire family turned against me and now NO one wants to come. I have been planning this for weeks. I am so upset and so is my husband, and our kids. I don't know what to do and how to handle this? Do you have any suggestions?

Dear Upset and Sad,
First, we all forget to do things in our lives, it is just natural. How about going to your Aunt Sadie's home to talk with her in person? I am sure that if you extend the olive branch in a manner of speaking she might see the light. Explain to her that you had no intentions of excluding her from this party. Tell her you love her. Ask her if there weren't times in her life when she forgot to call someone back?
Planning a party can be so stressful even if it's just for a few folks, let alone an entire family gathering. Try to add some humor in there that you almost forgot to include your husband in the gathering. I am sure she will settle down and you can call everyone back with the positive news that the party will still happen and let us all forgive and forget and get ready to have some fun. The kids would really be upset if no one wanted to come over.
Now go pick out a cute outfit for the gathering and write out your checklist to make this party very successful, so that in the future this won't happen again for you.
Here's wishing you all the best.

Welcome to The Warrenville Encourager.

Welcome to the Warrenville Encourager Blog.
This blog is created for Warrenville and the soul purpose to help others...

This is the time of year, when we suffer from seasonal depression.  I should know this from my own personal life.
There are things that you can do to help yourself over these times.
Here are a few suggestions that I try and follow.
Try and walk whenever you can.  Do your best to get out of the house and be active.
If you are retired, maybe you can go and visit with friends?  How about baking up some extra batches of food and deliver it to others that you know have a hard time cooking for themselves?  What about calling a neighbor that you know is working so hard and tell her that TONIGHT dinner is on you?
Yes, I have done that with my own neighbor.  You can volunteer with many organizations.
I also have several comedies that are my favorite.  I watch them.  There is a biblical verse in proverbs that says
"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine."
Have you cleaned out that closet of yours?  Don't forget we have one of the best Resale stores here in Warrenville.  Go and take a batch of clothes that you haven't worn in over a year to bless others.  Plus, they take some nice used furniture.  Through that store last year I was able to get a wonderful couch, two end tables and two awesome lamps.
What are some of your suggestions?  I'd love to hear what you do to help yourself?
